The British RAF's Lightning F.Mk.6 interceptor features a unique two vertically mounted engine layout. Late version F.6 were equipped with an upgraded engine and extra fuel tanks on top of the wings. The Lightning undertook air defense service for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988.
