The Weekend Edition kit features the German Bf 109G-5 fighter aircraft used during World War II. The model is based on Eduard molds and allows for the construction of one of four aircraft belonging to Jagdgeschwader units 3, 11, 50, or 54.
This kit belongs to the budget-friendly Weekend Edition series. It is designed for modelers who wish to build a detailed Bf 109G-5 model without the extras typical of the more comprehensive ProfiPACK editions, such as photo-etched parts or painting masks.
The model requires assembly and painting. Glue and paints are not included.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-5 was a high-altitude version of the German Bf 109G fighter, developed as an evolution of earlier variants in the "Gustav" family. The aircraft was adapted for high-altitude operations, notably through the inclusion of a pressurized cockpit.
Distinguishing features of the Bf 109G-5 included an armored rear cockpit section and a modified canopy designed to accommodate the pressurization system. Aircraft of this version could be fitted with various sets of additional armament and equipment, as evidenced by the U2, R3, and R6 designations found among the variants included in the kit.
The Bf 109G-5 was operated by Luftwaffe fighter units primarily during the second half of 1943 and the early part of 1944.
Aircraft of this type saw combat on various fronts, including the defense of the Reich against Allied bombing raids. No carriers available for this product.
