A plastic model kit of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-11, a late version of the famous German "Dora" fighter. This kit is part of the Basic Kit series and focuses on detailed reproduction of the aircraft's structure, including realistic metal surfaces and sheet metal subdivisions. The included decals allow you to recreate three specific aircraft used by the General Jagdflieger Air Force Base in Bad Wörishofen in the spring of 1945.
The Fw 190D was a development of the earlier Fw 190 versions, designed to improve the aircraft's performance at higher altitudes. The air-cooled radial engine was replaced by a Junkers Jumo 213 inline engine, resulting in the characteristic elongated fuselage nose. The Fw 190D-9, the first large-scale production version of the "D" series, entered service in the fall of 1944. The Fw 190D-11 was one of the most specialized variants of this family. It featured the Jumo 213F engine and reinforced wing armament. Two 20mm MG 151 cannons were mounted in the wing roots, while two 30mm MK 108 cannons were mounted in the outer wings. The fuselage was decommissioned of machine guns, which was reflected in the modified frontal cowling. The Fw 190D-11 was produced in small numbers. Sources indicate approximately 20 built, completed in February and March 1945. Due to their very late introduction and the limited number of available aircraft, their operational history is significantly less extensive than that of the more popular Fw 190D-9.
The three aircraft featured in the kit belonged to the Verbandsführerschule des Generals der Jagdflieger (VFS des G.d.J.), a school designed to train and develop fighter unit commanders. The unit operated in Bad Wörishofen from early 1945, and its Fw 190D-11s were used in the final months of the war. VFS des G.d.J. was disbanded at the end of April 1945.
Note: The kit does not include glue or paints. Basic modeling tools are also required to build the model.
