Ancient Britons Figure Set

Airfix A01734V is a classic 1:76 scale Ancient Britons Figure Set from the Vintage Classics range. This reissued kit recreates one of Airfix's most popular historical figure sets and is an excellent choice for enthusiasts of ancient history and modellers building dioramas depicting the Roman conquest of Britain.

The kit contains 43 parts, including Celtic warriors, war chariots and horses. The figures are sculpted in a variety of dynamic poses and equipped with characteristic weapons such as spears, swords and shields. One of the highlights of the set is the inclusion of traditional British war chariots, which played an important role in the tactics of the Celtic tribes inhabiting ancient Britain. The 1:76 scale makes the set fully compatible with other Airfix historical figures and accessories, particularly the Roman Legionaries figure set.

Designed for beginners (Skill Level 1), the kit includes plastic parts, assembly instructions and a painting guide with Humbrol paint references. The manufacturer provides a single historical colour scheme.

History of the Original

Before the Roman conquest, Britain was inhabited by numerous Celtic tribes renowned for their courage, mobility and skill in warfare. Their warriors fought with spears, swords and shields, relying on speed, surprise and their knowledge of the local terrain rather than the disciplined formations employed by the Roman legions.

One of the most distinctive features of ancient British warfare was the use of light war chariots. Typically crewed by a driver and a warrior, these fast and agile vehicles allowed fighters to move rapidly across the battlefield, launch attacks and quickly withdraw before engaging again. Classical writers, including Julius Caesar, described the effectiveness of British chariot tactics during his campaigns in Britain.

Although the Celtic tribes resisted Roman expansion for many years, the Roman invasion begun under Emperor Claudius in AD 43 gradually brought most of Britain under Roman control. Nevertheless, the courage and fighting spirit of the ancient Britons have secured them a lasting place in British history and legend.

Included Colour Scheme

  • Ancient Britons – traditional representation of Celtic warriors and war chariots from ancient Britain (single painting scheme).

Paints Recommended by the Manufacturer

The kit includes a Humbrol painting guide covering the colours recommended for the warriors, horses and war chariots. The palette includes shades suitable for clothing, leather equipment, wooden chariots, shields, weapons and metallic details, allowing an authentic representation of Celtic warriors from ancient Britain.
