The Sheriff of Nottingham is one of the best-known characters in English folklore. Most versions portray him as a loyal supporter of Prince John, enforcing heavy taxation and relentlessly pursuing Robin Hood and his band of outlaws hiding in Sherwood Forest.

Although the historical existence of both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham remains uncertain, their rivalry has become one of the most enduring themes in British folklore and literature. Over the centuries, the legend has inspired countless books, stage productions, films and television series, establishing the Sheriff as the principal antagonist and a symbol of oppressive authority.
