The legendary Supermarine Spitfire is considered by many as the symbol of the RAF during WWII. The Mk.Vb, which featured a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine and an armament of two 20mm cannons and four 7.7mm machine guns, was produced starting from 1941.
< RAF Crew Uniforms > During WWII, RAF officers wore a blue-gray uniform with a black necktie. In addition to the uniform, pilots also had a brown leather "Irvin" jacket and flight suit to combat the cold of high altitude flights.
