The modeler can build a detailed engine compartment featuring the Ford GAA engine, driver and assistant driver stations, a fully equipped fighting compartment, and a turret interior complete with the gun mechanism, sighting equipment, and radio.

The Clear version allows these elements to be displayed without needing to leave hatches open or remove sections of the armor. The transparent parts preserve the vehicle's exterior profile while offering a view of the highly detailed interior.

The model can also be built in a standard configuration using conventional, opaque armor parts. The tracks consist of individual T-66 links, and photo-etched parts are included to add fine structural details.

M4 Sherman

The M4 Sherman was an American medium tank developed during World War II. Mass production began in 1942, and numerous variants were subsequently produced, featuring various engines, armament configurations, and design features. The Sherman became one of the primary tanks of the Allied forces and was widely used by both the US Army and allied nations.

M4A3 76W HVSS

The M4A3 variant was powered by the Ford GAA engine. Later versions featured a 76 mm gun, which offered greater effectiveness against armored vehicles than the earlier 75 mm gun. The "W" designation refers to the "wet" ammunition stowage system, designed to reduce the risk of fire in the event of armor penetration.

Another significant improvement was the use of HVSS (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension). Compared to the earlier VVSS, this new system allowed for wider tracks and improved the tank's handling, particularly when traversing difficult terrain. The late-model M4A3 76W HVSS is often referred to as the M4A3E8 "Easy Eight".

Technical specifications of the original vehicle

  • Type: Medium tank
  • Crew: 5
  • Engine: Ford GAA V8
  • Power: Approx. 450 hp
  • Main armament: 76 mm gun
  • Secondary armament: Browning M1919 machine guns

The Sherman in the final stages of the war

The M4A3 76W HVSS was one of the most advanced versions of the Sherman used by US forces during the final stages of World War II. The combination of heavier armament, improved suspension, and safer ammunition stowage enhanced its capabilities compared to earlier versions.

Shermans also remained in service after World War II and were used by many nations in subsequent conflicts. The design proved versatile enough that various variants remained in use for decades.
