Vought OS2U-3 Kingfisher with Launcher – Set of Two Models

Riich Models RS20003 contains two complete models of the American Vought OS2U-3 Kingfisher reconnaissance floatplane, each accompanied by a catapult launcher. The models are presented in 1:200 scale and are designed for display on warship decks, in maritime dioramas, or as accessories for battleship and cruiser models equipped with shipboard aircraft.

The Kingfisher models feature a central float and smaller stabilizing floats. The included launchers reproduce the equipment used to deploy reconnaissance aircraft from the decks of large surface vessels. The set contains two complete kits, making it possible to display aircraft on different sections of a ship or to create a more detailed maritime scene.

Vought OS2U Kingfisher

The Vought OS2U Kingfisher was an American single-engine reconnaissance floatplane developed for operation from battleships and cruisers. Its prototype first flew in 1938, while series production continued from 1940 to 1945.

The aircraft was primarily used for reconnaissance, artillery observation and correcting naval gunfire. Kingfishers were launched from shipboard catapults and recovered from the water after completing their missions. The type was also employed for anti-submarine patrols and rescue operations, although these tasks were performed with limited effectiveness.

The aircraft was powered by various versions of the Pratt & Whitney R-985 engine, producing approximately 450 hp. Its compact design and float-equipped landing gear allowed it to operate from water surfaces while remaining suitable for deployment aboard major naval vessels.
