USS Ohio SSBN Class – Dual Pack of Two Submarine Models

Riich Models RL27004 contains two complete models of the American Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine in 1:700 scale. The set is designed for collectors and naval modellers who want to build multiple vessels of one of the most significant submarine classes of the modern era.

The kit includes parts for two submarines with detailed hulls, sail structures, diving planes, propellers and missile-launching sections. The hull design allows the models to be displayed either as full-hull submarines or as waterline models, making them suitable for individual presentation or use in maritime dioramas.

The models are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and modelling tools are not included.

Ohio-Class Submarines

The Ohio class was developed for the United States Navy as a new generation of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. Classified as SSBNs, these vessels formed a major part of the American strategic nuclear deterrent. Their large size allowed them to carry up to 24 submarine-launched ballistic missiles, significantly more than earlier American missile submarines.

The first vessel, USS Ohio, was built by Electric Boat in Groton and entered service in 1981. The class was constructed between 1976 and 1997, with 18 submarines completed. In addition to their strategic role, the submarines were equipped with advanced sonar systems and designed for long-duration patrols with high levels of operational endurance.

The first four vessels of the class were later converted from SSBN ballistic missile submarines into SSGN guided missile submarines. Their ballistic missile tubes were modified to accommodate Tomahawk cruise missiles and equipment supporting special operations. The remaining vessels retained their SSBN configuration.
