Riich Models CV35A008 is a 1:35 scale plastic model kit of the early-production Vickers 6-Ton Alt B light tank, depicting the vehicle with serial number VAE 546 used by Finland for evaluation trials in the 1930s. The kit features a detailed interior and a 2-in-1 configuration, allowing the modeller to build the tank in its original configuration or in a later modified form.
The original vehicle was fitted with a Type B turret mounted on the left side of the hull. Depending on the selected version, the model can be equipped with the standard short-barrelled Vickers 47 mm gun or a captured Soviet 45 mm gun installed after the Winter War. The kit includes detailed interior components, photo-etched parts and decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Plastic cement, paints and modelling tools are not included.
The Vickers 6-Ton, also known as the Vickers Mark E, was a British light tank developed in 1928 by Vickers-Armstrong. The design was created as a private venture and was intended primarily for export. Although the British Army did not adopt the tank, it attracted considerable interest from foreign customers.
The vehicle was produced in two principal configurations. The Type A featured two small machine-gun turrets, while the Type B was equipped with a single turret. In the export version, the turret was positioned on the left side of the hull, allowing more space for the driver and simplifying the internal layout.
The Vickers 6-Ton became one of the most influential export tank designs of the interwar period. It was used by several countries and served as the basis for further developments, including the Polish 7TP and the Soviet T-26.
In July 1933, Finland ordered three different Vickers armoured vehicles for comparative testing. The Vickers 6-Ton Alt B, bearing the manufacturer’s serial number VAE 546, was delivered in October 1933 and underwent extensive trials with the Finnish Army.
The tank performed well during cross-country testing and demonstrated particularly good mobility in deep snow. These results made it the most promising of the tested Vickers designs for Finnish conditions. However, the original short-barrelled 47 mm gun was considered insufficiently effective against armoured targets and fortified positions.
After the Winter War, VAE 546 was modified and fitted with a captured Soviet 45 mm tank gun. The vehicle therefore represents an interesting example of how imported equipment was adapted to meet the operational requirements of the Finnish Army.
This kit is well suited for depicting the Finnish Vickers 6-Ton during its evaluation trials in the 1930s or after its later wartime modification. The 2-in-1 configuration allows the modeller to choose between the original vehicle and the version armed with the Soviet 45 mm gun.
