Background information
The SSKL was the crowning achievement of the successful S series from Mercedes-Benz. The name stood for “Super-Sport-Short-Light". To reduce the weight, the engineers even drilled holes in the vehicle frame - a radical measure at the time. The 7.1-liter six-cylinder engine produced a massive 300 hp with the compressor switched on. Rudolf Caracciola's victory in the 1931 Mille Miglia in this car is considered one of the greatest achievements in motorsport, as he competed against the superiority of Alfa Romeo without factory support and won.
