The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle known as the HMMWV or Hummer is one of the vehicles most frequently used by the US forces and is a genuine all-weather vehicle. The platform can be converted for use as a cargo/troop carrier, weapons carrier or ambulance. The main advantages of this vehicle are its low centre of gravity and high ground clearance, a combination that gives the HMMWV very good performance over difficult terrain. The bodywork is made of aluminium throughout which offers light weight combined with long service life and low maintenance costs. If necessary the HMMWV can even by dropped by parachute from a low altitude over the operational area.
