This model represents the German Opel Blitz 3.6-6700A RN-Type military truck, a four-wheel-drive vehicle used to transport troops and supplies during World War II. Trucks from the Opel Blitz family were among the most important transport vehicles operated by the Wehrmacht. The four-wheel-drive version offered improved mobility on muddy roads and uneven terrain, making it particularly useful during military operations in challenging conditions.
The kit features a detailed driver's cab and a cargo bed with high wooden sides. Carefully reproduced bodywork, chassis components and equipment allow the modeller to build a realistic miniature of this military transport vehicle. Photo-etched parts are included to enhance fine details, together with decals offering three historical marking options.
This is a plastic model kit intended for assembly and painting. Glue and paints are not included and must be purchased separately.
The Opel Blitz was one of the most recognisable German trucks of World War II. Produced in large numbers, it became a key transport vehicle for many Wehrmacht formations. Trucks from this family carried troops, ammunition, food, fuel and equipment, supporting both frontline units and formations operating behind the lines.
The 3.6-6700A version entered production in 1940. Unlike standard variants with rear-wheel drive, it featured four-wheel drive, improving its ability to travel over difficult terrain. This was particularly valuable on unpaved roads, in muddy conditions and on uneven routes where conventional trucks could struggle to maintain traction.
The designation 3.6 referred to the engine's displacement of approximately 3.6 litres, while 6700A identified the specific four-wheel-drive version. The RN-Type designation was associated with its chassis configuration and standard wheelbase. Vehicles from this family were used for a variety of transport duties, and their chassis also served as the basis for numerous specialised variants.
The Opel Blitz 3.6-6700A was powered by a six-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of approximately 3.6 litres and an output of around 75 hp. Four-wheel drive and its ability to negotiate uneven ground improved its suitability for field operations. Although it was not an off-road vehicle in the modern sense, it provided valuable support to units operating far from paved roads.
The truck was built to carry heavy loads and withstand the demands of military service. Its distinctive cab, upright radiator grille and wooden cargo bed became characteristic features of many Opel Blitz variants. In the transport version, the high sides of the cargo bed allowed equipment and supplies to be carried securely, while the body configuration could be adapted to the requirements of individual units.
Opel Blitz trucks served in several theatres of war, from Western Europe to North Africa and the Eastern Front. In North Africa, transport vehicles had to cope with high temperatures, dust and long supply routes. In Eastern Europe, the main challenges included mud, snow, freezing temperatures and the great distances between supply bases and frontline units.
The four-wheel-drive variant was particularly useful where poor road conditions restricted the movement of conventional trucks. By transporting troops and equipment, these vehicles helped maintain the mobility of motorised formations and supported the daily logistical needs of armoured units. Their service illustrates how essential reliable transport and supply were to military operations, alongside combat vehicles themselves.
This truck is well suited to dioramas depicting military convoys, field camps, armoured-unit support areas and operations in North Africa or on the Eastern Front. The desert versions can be enhanced with dust and sand effects, while the Eastern Front version can feature mud, operational wear and paint chipping. The three marking options allow the model to represent different settings in which German transport units operated during 1942–1943.
