This plastic model kit depicts the Boeing KC-135R/FR Stratotanker, an American tanker aircraft designed for in-flight refueling. The assembled model measures approximately 58 cm in length. The kit includes decals for three marking variants and full-color assembly instructions.
The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker is one of the most important tanker aircraft in the history of military aviation. Its design is directly derived from the four-engine Boeing 707 passenger aircraft. The KC-135 entered service in the late 1950s, initially tasked with aerial refueling of long-range Strategic Air Command bombers.
The aircraft is equipped with four jet engines mounted under the wings. In later modernizations, the original engines were replaced with more efficient turbofan engines, increasing performance and operational efficiency. The KC-135R is the result of one of the most important modernizations of the Stratotanker family.
The basic refueling equipment is a rigid "flying boom" mounted under the rear fuselage. The aircraft can also be equipped with under-wing refueling pods with flexible lines. According to the manufacturer, the KC-135 can carry nearly 100,000 kg of fuel.
During its many years of service, the KC-135's missions extended beyond simply refueling aircraft. Stratotankers extended the range and endurance of fighters and strike aircraft, and supported a wide range of operations conducted by the US and allied air forces.
The KC-135 remains a design with an exceptionally long service history. Subsequent modernizations have adapted the aircraft to modern requirements, ensuring that the Stratotanker continues to play a vital role in the aerial refueling system.
Note: The kit does not include glue or paints. Basic modeling tools are also required to build the model.
