Description
Unassembled plastic model kit.

Paints and Glue are not included with any kit unless stated otherwise!

It was designed in 1936 as a carrier-based bomber. The prototype first flew in January 1938 and was powered by a 710 hp (522 kW) Nakajima Kousei engine. The production version had slightly smaller wings and was powered by a 1,000 hp (735 kW) Mitsubishi Kinsei 43 engine. After flying a few operations from land bases in Indochina and China, the Aichi D3A1 was used for most carrier operations during the first 10 months of the war. The D3A1 sank more Allied warships than any other aircraft in the Axis forces. British losses included the carrier HMS Hermes, the first carrier in history to be sunk by operations conducted from another carrier, and the cruisers HMS Comwall and HMS Dorsetshire. Heavy losses at the Battle of the Coral Sea prompted the withdrawal of most of the surviving aircraft to land bases, and in 1942 the Aichi D3A2 version was introduced with larger fuel tanks and more powerful engines. Although equipped with engines, they were no match for modern American fighters. A small number were used in kamikaze attacks, estimated at 476 D3A1s and 1,016 D3A2s. The D3A1s were called "Val" by the Allies.
