The 8th Fighter Wing (commonly known as the "Wolfpack") was deployed to Ubon Air Base in Thailand, which became the U.S. Air Force's forward base in Vietnam from December 1965, during the early phase of the Vietnam War. On January 2, 1967, it launched "Operation Bolo," aimed at eliminating MiG fighters posing a threat to bombing missions in North Vietnam, shooting down seven new MiG-21 fighters delivered by the Soviet Union the previous fall in a single day. It is worth noting that the Wing shot down 22 MiG fighters flying the F-4C before switching to the next version of the Phantom, designated the "D."

The included decals depict three camouflage schemes, including the one flown by Colonel Robert Olds, the wing commander.
