The full-scale production of the «Swordfish» carrier-borne torpedo bomber began in the UK in June 1936. In the next month, the plane was fielded with a first air squadron of the Royal Navy’s air arm. Following the beginning of WWII, «the Swordfish» would escort naval convoys, defend ships from Kriegsmarine submarines and operate in the torpedo bomber role. However, the obsolete planes were converted to the antisubmarine warfare (ASW) role as early as 1941, in which capacity they had been used until the war ended. In all, 1,112 «Swordfishes» were built.
