The Yakovlev Yak-7B was one of the main Soviet Air Force fighters during WWII. The Yak-7B front-line fighter was designed in early 1942 on the base of its predecessor the Yak-7A, it differed from the latter in more potent weapons and aerodynamic improvements. In contrast to all other Soviet serial fighters of that period, the Yak-7B possessed the most powerful armament. A total of 5,381 fighters were built during April, 1942 - July, 1944.
Arseniy Vasilyevich Vorozheykin came to the front as a seasoned fighter in September 1942 following his graduation from the Air Force Academy. Under his belt he had the Soviet-Finnish War and the Battles of Khalkhin Gol where he downed six Japanese aircraft. The famous ace scored his first victory in the capacity of a Yak-7B fighter pilot during the Battle of Kursk. A. V. Vorozheykin was awarded his first Golden Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union on 4 February 1944, with the award bestowed on him for the second time on 19 August 1944. In all, A. V. Vorozheykin flew 400 sorties and shot down 52 enemy aircraft personally and 14 as part of a package.
