The Yak-52 replaced the Yak-18 as a primary training plane for both civilian sport pilots and military pilots. The aircraft is in demand and popular in the West, in the U.S. and Canada. There were around 1900 Yak-52 planes of all modifications built at the Aerostar S.A. factory in Bacău, Romania by 2013.
