The Yakovlev Yak-7B was one of the main Soviet Air Force fighters during WWII. The Yak-7B front-line fighter was designed in early 1942 on the base of its predecessor the Yak-7A, it differed from the latter in more potent weapons and aerodynamic improvements. In contrast to all other Soviet serial fighters of that period, the Yak-7B possessed the most powerful armament. A total of 5,381 fighters were built during April, 1942 - July, 1944.
Petr Afanasyevich Pokryshev was one of the most well-known Soviet aces of WWII. He fought in the vicinity of Leningrad, the Baltic and in East Prussia. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for the second time on 24 August 1943. Flying the Yak-7B (side number 33), Petr Pokryshev fought as part of the 29th Guards Fighter Air Regiment on the Leningrad Front in 1943. Major P. A. Pokryshev flew 282 sorties, he shot down 24 enemy aircraft personally and seven as part of a package.
