September 25, 1898, in the south of Russia in Nikolaev a new squadron battleship was laid, named "Prince Potemkin-Tavricheskiy". In accordance with her tactical and technical characteristics, the "Prince Potemkin-Tavricheskiy" was the most powerful in her class ships in the Russian Navy. The battleship was put into operation in spring 1905 while the First Russian Revolution took place. June 14, 1905, the famous uprising broke out on the battleship. The reason was an attempt of the command of the battleship to inflict punishment on the instigators of the revolt of the crew, who supposedly refused to dinner because of the spoiled meat. In order to resist repressions sailors seized rifles and disarmed officers. There was firing. A commander of the ship, a senior officer and several of the most hated officers of the crew were killed. The rest of the officers were arrested. After 12 days of unsuccessful attempts to continue the uprising in other ships of the Black Sea Fleet, the rebels led the ship to Romania, where they surrendered to the local authorities. The battleship was returned to Russia the next day.
