In 1945 the Leningrad Kirov Plant started designing a new super-heavy tank. It was designated as the "Object 260", and later the IS-7 (JS-7). This combat vehicle has embodied all the experience of WWII, and many innovative solutions were implemented in its design: the world's most powerful 130-mm tank gun with mechanized loading and electric power drives, 8 machine guns, an impenetrable 150-mm "pike nose" and 210-mm frontal armor of a huge cast turret, excellent ergonomics, a perfect suspension with beam torsions, a powerful 1050-hp diesel with an ejection-type cooling system, a caterpillar with rubber-metallic hinges, and more. The IS-7 was ahead of its time in a generation, it had no equal neither in fire power or armor protection, nor in maneuverability and mobility - the 68-ton colossus speeds up to 60 km per hour!
