Ukrainian T-72AMT Main Battle Tank

T-72AMT is a detailed model of the Ukrainian modernisation of the Soviet T-72A main battle tank. The vehicle received improved protection, upgraded observation and fire-control systems, as well as additional equipment intended to increase its effectiveness on the modern battlefield. The Amusing Hobby kit represents a tank configuration used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Model

The kit includes a finely detailed hull and turret with equipment characteristic of the Ukrainian T-72AMT. Particular attention has been given to the additional explosive reactive armour and protective structures fitted to the rear of the vehicle.

The tracks are assembled from individual links, allowing the modeller to reproduce their natural sag around the road wheels. Photo-etched and 3D-printed parts enhance smaller structural details and add further precision to the finished model.

The completed vehicle can be displayed as a standalone subject or incorporated into a diorama depicting modern Ukrainian military equipment, a technical support area or a contemporary battlefield environment.

Assembly and Painting

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The individual track links require careful assembly, while the photo-etched parts are best attached using cyanoacrylate adhesive. Glue, paints and modelling tools are not included and must be purchased separately.

T-72AMT

The T-72AMT is a Ukrainian combat modernisation of the Soviet T-72A main battle tank. The programme was developed to increase the combat value of older vehicles held in storage and adapt them to the requirements of modern warfare. Development work began in 2017, drawing on operational experience from the fighting in eastern Ukraine, while serial deliveries to the Ukrainian Armed Forces began in 2020.

The modernisation improved several key areas of the original design. Protection was enhanced through the use of Ukrainian Nizh explosive reactive armour and additional cage armour. The vehicle also received upgraded observation and fire-control equipment, as well as the ability to launch guided anti-tank missiles from its main gun.

One of the distinctive features of the T-72AMT is the remotely operated heavy machine-gun station mounted on the commander's cupola. The vehicle was also fitted with updated communications equipment and other systems intended to improve crew effectiveness under modern combat conditions.

The T-72AMT in Modern Combat

The experience of combat operations in eastern Ukraine had a significant influence on the development of the T-72AMT. Following the beginning of the full-scale war, some vehicles were also equipped with simplified field modifications, using available components in place of equipment that was more difficult to obtain.

The T-72AMT is an example of a practical modernisation of an older tank design. It retains the proven hull and drivetrain of the T-72 family while improving protection, firepower and crew awareness. Its distinctive reactive armour, additional protective structures and modern equipment make it an interesting subject for modellers specialising in contemporary military vehicles.
