The Ionic WWII US Marine Corps tanks 1942 – 1945 Set includes 12 acrylic paints specially selected for recreating the iconic vehicles of the US Marine Corps during World War 2.
The Ionic Smart Colors WWII United States Marine Corps (USMC) Vehicles (1942–1945) set includes 12 acrylic paints specially selected to provide the essential tones for accurately painting Marine Corps tanks, LVTs, and landing craft during the Pacific campaigns of World War II.
This set of 12 paints contains all the necessary colors to depict USMC vehicles from the early Guadalcanal landings up to Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The standard base color was Olive Drab Nº9, the same tone used by the US Army, although under the tropical sun it often faded to a lighter, more brownish shade. In many Pacific islands, disruptive camouflage patterns were added in Lusterless Black, Earth Red, Earth Brown, or Sand, sometimes applied hastily in the field. LVTs and landing craft frequently retained their Ocean Gray(5-O) finishes, occasionally combined with Olive Drab or field-applied tan colors. White tactical markings, stars, names, and sometimes stripes were often painted to improve recognition during amphibious assaults.
The set also includes the tones needed to paint the tracks, including a neutral brown for use as a base color and a dark metallic color, which is also useful for painting tools. The set also provides an orange-brown for painting the wooden parts of the tools, an almost-black brown for chipping effects, and black for the rubber and other details.
Finally, the set is completed with a universal color for creating lighter tones and highlights, Bone. Although all these colors can be used as they are to paint each element of the vehicle, they can also be mixed to create new shades or tones, especially for generating volume through the addition of highlights and shadows.
