The Ionic Smart Colors WWII Imperial Japanese Army Tanks 1937 – 1945 Set includes 12 acrylic paints specially selected for painting the armoured vehicles of Imperial Japan during World War 2.

The Ionic WWII Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) vehicles (1937-1945) set includes 12 acrylic paints specially selected to provide the essential tones for accurately painting Japanese tanks during the World War II.

This set of 12 paints contains all the necessary colors to paint IJA vehicles from 1937 to 1945. Up until the middle of World War II (1937–1942), the base color was a khaki (tsuchi kusa-iro) or a khaki drab, over which disruptive patches of mahogany brown (tsuchi-iro) and dark green (kusa-iro) were applied, resulting in a three-color camouflage scheme. It was also common for crossed disruptive lines in faded-yellow (kiiro) or “parched grass" (karekusa-iro) to be painted across the middle of the tank. Sometimes, the outline of the camouflage patches was marked in black.

From 1942 onward, the Japanese Army changed its regulations, eliminating the black and yellow lines. The base color was replaced with a “parched grass" (karekusa-iro), with disruptive patches of dark green (kusa-iro) or olive (tsutikusa-iro) and mahogany brown (tsuchi-iro)

The set also includes the tones needed to paint the tracks, including a neutral brown as a base color and a dark metallic color, which is also useful for painting tools. The set also provides an almost-black brown for chipping effects, a dark red for rust effects, and black for the rubber and other details. The different shades of brown can also be used to paint stowage. Finally, the set is completed with a universal color for creating lighter tones and highlights, Vanilla.

Although all these colors can be used as they are to paint each element of the vehicle, they can also be mixed to create new shades or tones, especially useful for generating volume through the addition of shadows and highlights
