The Ionic Smart Colors WWII Imperial Japanese Army Uniforms 1937-1945 Set includes 12 acrylic paints specially selected for painting the uniforms of Imperial Japanese Army during World War 2.

The Ionic Smart Colors WWII Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) uniform set includes 12 acrylic paints specially chosen to provide the essential tones for painting WWII IJA miniatures.

This set of 12 paints includes all the colors needed to accurately depict IJA uniforms from World War II, for both temperate and tropical regions. It focuses primarily on the Type 98 (1938) uniform, which was issued in various shades of olive drab and khaki. Because of wartime logistics and heavy field use, uniform colors often varied significantly, even among soldiers in the same unit.

To capture this wide range of tones, the set provides two distinct shades of khaki as well as an olive green, along with additional colors for creating mid-tones, highlights, and subtle variations in fabric weathering. These can be used to paint the tunic, trousers, and puttees (cloth leggings) or canvas gaiters. These colors can also be used to paint the helmet, caps and webbing.

The set is rounded out with several browns and black for painting the IJA soldier’s equipment, such as straps, bread bag, canteen, and ammunition pouches, plus a skin tone and the colors needed to paint the rifle. Finally, the set includes a light tone, Vanilla, intended for mixing with the other paints to create highlights.

Although each of these colors can be used as-is to paint individual elements of the figure, they can also be combined to create new shades or tones, especially to add depth by playing with light and shadow.
