Use A.MIG-2037 Zimmerit Paste for the best results.
For those looking to deepen their understanding of Zimmerit, AMMO’s book ZIMMERIT: The Ultimate Modeling Guide (English) A.MIG-6311 offers a wealth of historical context, application methods, and painting and weathering techniques. With several step-by-step modeling chapters, it serves as a valuable reference for achieving realistic Zimmerit finishes.
Precise design: The teeth of each applicator trowel are spaced in scale according to the original Zimmerit patterns.
Variety of sizes and formats: 9 applicator tools with different spacing to represent the patterns used on different vehicles, from heavy tanks such as the Tiger I and Panther to lighter vehicles such as the StuG III. The variety of shapes include narrow to access tighter areas, and longer tools for larger, more accessible surfaces.
Durable materials: The sturdy applicator combs are made of high-quality photo-etched steel, and will keep their shape after continuous use. This ensures a uniform application of the Zimmerit pattern on your models over time.
How to Use the Zimmerit Applicator Tools?
Apply the paste: Start by spreading a thin (0.7 mm for 1/35, adjust the thickness proportionally for other scales) uniform layer of acrylic paste to the surface of the model.
Let it dry for a few minutes, approximately 3 to 5, so that the Zimmerit gains some firmness.
Creating the Pattern: Use the appropriate applicator tool to mark the pattern you want to reproduce. Press it gently onto the fresh paste and pull it across the surface in a straight line in the appropriate direction, depending on the design you want to replicate. For “herringbone/chevron" patterns, alternate the direction of each row to create the distinctive V-shape. You can lightly moisten the surface of the Zimmerit with Enamel Odourless Thinner A.MIG-2019 so that it does not stick to the tools. Occasionally clean the tool with water to remove accumulated Zimmerit.
Drying and finishing: Allow the paste to dry completely before handling or painting the model. Wait at least 1 hour, but it can take several hours depending on the thickness of the coat applied.
Historical accuracy: replicate Zimmerit patterns faithfully, adding authenticity to your WWII German vehicles.
Ease of use: The tools are very easy to use and will help you create a consistent and detailed finish.
Versatility: tools with various shapes and with 0.5 mm and 0.7 mm spacing between ridges. They can be adapted to different surfaces and vehicles, from flat surfaces to curved areas.
The Zimmerit Applicator Tools are an essential resource for any modeler who wants to add this iconic element of WWII German models to create a more accurate and historical reproduction. With these tools, you can achieve an authentic and professional finish that mimics the methods used to apply the actual Zimmerit coating on the real vehicles.
