Since September of 1944, mainly due to material shortages, German vehicles previous camouflage colours were maintained while changing some shades. The yellow shade Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 was lightened into the DG I version, and even more so in the later DG III version. The green colour Olivgrün RAL 6003 was also lightened, known after the war as Resedagrün RAL 6011; on several occasions it replaced Dunkelgelb as the base colour for the vehicle, followed by adding camouflage patches or stripes with Dunkelgelb and Schokobraun. The brown shade Schokobraun RAL 8017 remained unchanged, although for the vehicles manufactured during the last weeks of the war it was replaced on several occasions by the primer colour Rotbraun RAL 8012.

These changes, in conjunction with the evolution of German camouflage patterns at the end of the war, meant that the German vehicles manufactured during
the last months of the conflict presented a different aspect from those produced before, and therefore are of special interest for WWII modellers.
