SEPECAT Jaguar T.2 & T.4 is a detailed model of one of the most distinctive British attack aircraft of the Cold War era. The Airfix kit in 1:48 scale allows you to build the two-seat version of the Jaguar designed for crew training. The model consists of 245 parts and has a finished wingspan of 181 mm. The kit has a skill level of 4 and offers three painting options.
The tandem-seat cockpit is one of the most distinctive features of the model. The kit allows you to build both the T.2 and the later T.4 versions, giving the modeller the opportunity to recreate different configurations of the training Jaguar used by the Royal Air Force.
The large scale allows the distinctive two-seat Jaguar cockpit to be reproduced in detail, with the seats arranged in tandem. The cockpit can be displayed with the canopies open, exposing the details of both crew positions and their equipment.
The model can be equipped with external fuel tanks mounted beneath the wings. The detailed landing gear, wheel wells and surface details of the fuselage and wings allow an attractive model to be created either in a configuration ready for flight or during ground servicing.
The three available painting options allow you to create aircraft with very different appearances. They include classic RAF camouflage schemes, an eye-catching anniversary scheme and a distinctive white, red and blue colour scheme of an aircraft used for testing and training duties.
The model is intended for self-assembly and requires gluing and painting. Plastic model cement is required for construction, along with suitable modelling paints for finishing. At this scale, an airbrush is also recommended, particularly for achieving an even finish on the larger surfaces.
The SEPECAT Jaguar was developed as a joint British-French project, initially intended to create an advanced jet trainer. During development, however, the design evolved into a multi-role combat aircraft capable of carrying out primarily strike missions.
The two-seat versions were developed for pilot training and preparation for operating the single-seat Jaguars. The instructor occupied the rear seat behind the trainee, while the characteristic cockpit configuration allowed the aircraft to retain aerodynamic characteristics and performance close to those of the combat versions.
The Jaguar T.2 was a British two-seat training version. Later, the upgraded T.4 version was developed, featuring modernised avionics and adapted for more advanced pilot training.
The two-seat Jaguars retained the combat character of the design and could be used not only for training but also for weapons training and preparing crews for actual operational missions.
The SEPECAT Jaguar T.2 & T.4 in 1:48 scale is an interesting choice for modellers interested in British military aviation and aircraft used during the Cold War. The large scale effectively highlights the Jaguar's distinctive silhouette and two-seat cockpit, while the option to build two different versions makes the kit even more appealing.
