Airfix A08022 features the Junkers Ju 52/3mg4e in 1:72 scale. This all-new tooling faithfully recreates one of the most iconic transport aircraft of the twentieth century. Consisting of 218 parts, the kit is intended for experienced modellers (Skill Level 4) and offers an impressive level of detail throughout.
The model accurately reproduces the Ju 52's distinctive corrugated metal skin, one of the aircraft's defining design features. The kit includes a fully detailed cockpit, cargo compartment and engines, together with numerous optional parts that allow different production versions of the Ju 52/3mg4e to be built. Multiple doors and access hatches may be displayed either open or closed, while optional machine-gun installations, alternative undercarriage configurations and factory-specific details provide additional building possibilities. Oil drums and wheel chocks are also included, making the kit an excellent basis for a realistic airfield diorama.
The kit includes decals for three authentic historical marking options, together with a detailed instruction booklet and Humbrol paint guide.
The Junkers Ju 52 began life as a single-engined freight aircraft that first flew in October 1930. Within months, Junkers introduced the far more capable three-engined Ju 52/3m, offering greater power, improved reliability and the safety of multi-engine operation. The aircraft quickly proved itself as an excellent passenger and cargo transport, carrying up to 17 passengers and helping Lufthansa establish many of Europe's early commercial air routes. Its corrugated light-alloy construction provided exceptional strength and durability, characteristics that became synonymous with the aircraft throughout its long service life.
During the Second World War, the Ju 52 became the backbone of the Luftwaffe's transport fleet. It served in a remarkable variety of roles, including troop transport, airborne assault operations, cargo delivery, medical evacuation, glider towing and paratroop deployment. Specialised variants also operated as floatplanes and even as airborne minesweepers equipped with a large degaussing ring beneath the fuselage. Nearly 5,000 aircraft were produced, and the Ju 52 remained in military and civilian service long after the war, becoming one of the most recognisable transport aircraft ever built.
Airfix provides a comprehensive Humbrol paint guide covering all three marking options. The recommended colours include RLM camouflage shades, interior colours, propeller finishes, metallic components, cockpit details and markings required to accurately reproduce each historical aircraft.
