Airfix A04018V features the Short SC.7 Skyvan in 1:72 scale. Part of the Vintage Classics range, this kit brings back one of Airfix's classic aircraft models. Consisting of 152 parts, it is designed for modellers with some previous experience (Skill Level 3).
The kit accurately captures the distinctive appearance of one of Britain's most recognisable utility transport aircraft. Its box-shaped fuselage, high-mounted wing and rear loading ramp gave the Skyvan exceptional practicality and made it instantly recognisable. Airfix has faithfully reproduced the aircraft's unique proportions and key external details, resulting in an impressive model with a completed wingspan of approximately 275 mm.
The kit includes parts and decals for two historical marking options. Inside the box are plastic components, a detailed instruction booklet, decals and painting guides with the manufacturer's recommended Humbrol paint references.
The Short SC.7 Skyvan was developed by Short Brothers during the early 1960s as a compact transport aircraft capable of operating from short and unprepared airstrips. Making its maiden flight in 1963, the aircraft was designed with simplicity, reliability and maximum cargo capacity in mind. Its distinctive square-section fuselage and large rear loading ramp allowed vehicles, freight and passengers to be loaded quickly and efficiently.
Thanks to its excellent STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) performance, the Skyvan proved suitable for operations from remote airfields where larger transport aircraft could not operate. It was widely used for passenger transport, cargo flights, parachute operations, humanitarian missions and military logistics. The military Skyvan 3M variant served with several air forces, including the Argentine Air Force during the Falklands War in 1982. Around 150 aircraft of all variants were built, and many remained in civilian service for decades due to their rugged construction and exceptional versatility.
The instruction booklet includes the complete Humbrol paint guide for both marking options. The recommended colours cover the finishes used on civilian and military transport aircraft, together with the appropriate shades for the cockpit, landing gear, propellers and other structural details.
