Airfix A02329A features the Bedford MK FV 4×4 Tactical Aircraft Refueller in 1:76 scale. The kit accurately represents a specialist military vehicle designed to refuel aircraft and helicopters in field conditions. Consisting of 36 parts, it is intended for beginner modellers (Skill Level 1).
The model faithfully reproduces the distinctive appearance of the Bedford MK FV 4×4 tanker, including the driver's cab, fuel tank and the equipment associated with military aviation ground support. The compact 1:76 scale makes the kit an ideal companion for military aircraft, helicopters and support vehicles, allowing realistic RAF and British Army airfield dioramas to be created.
The kit includes decals for three historical marking options. Inside the box are plastic components, assembly instructions, painting guides and Humbrol paint references for each colour scheme.
The Bedford MK was introduced into British military service in the early 1970s as a versatile family of medium-duty 4×4 trucks. Designed to operate in demanding off-road conditions, the vehicle quickly became one of the standard transport platforms used by the British Army and the Royal Air Force. Its reliability, excellent cross-country mobility and adaptability allowed it to serve in numerous specialist roles, including cargo transport, communications, recovery and aviation support.
The Tactical Aircraft Refueller variant was developed to provide rapid refuelling for military aircraft and helicopters operating from dispersed airfields and temporary forward bases. These vehicles played an important role in supporting aircraft such as the Harrier, as well as helicopters operated by the Army Air Corps and the Royal Air Force. Their ability to deliver fuel in remote locations significantly improved operational flexibility during training exercises and Cold War deployments. The robust Bedford MK chassis enabled the refueller to operate effectively on rough terrain where conventional airfield vehicles could not be used.
The instruction booklet includes the complete Humbrol paint guide for all three marking options. The recommended colours cover the camouflage and finishes used on British military support vehicles during the Cold War, together with shades for tyres, metal components, fuel equipment and operational markings.
